This paper describes experiences gained over the past eleven years administering system development projects for students in the third year of the major in information science.
Issues covered include the choice of development tool, elicitation of projects from the local community, organisation and management of computer resources, supervision of student groups, evaluation of system quality and student assessment.
Although it is quite resource intensive, student evaluations suggest that the experience is worthwhile and is important for future employment opportunities.
