How much time do you think we spend in bed? Amazingly enough, not many people accurately know how long they spend asleep, this is approximately a third of our entire lives. If we spent this much time doing our favourite activity we would want to make sure that we have the best quality goods for the job, so why it is many of us still buy cheap bedding? Surely we should be investing in luxury bed linen and not just trying to save a few pounds here and there? We lead very hectic life styles and we want the best we can afford but we feel that sleep is too important to us to just leave it to chance. Most of the luxury bed linen available is made from superior cotton, Egyptian cotton to be more precise. This wonderful fabric is normally woven to a high thread count giving you a soft, silky fabric to sleep on or under. The tight weave ensures that the sheets last for a long time and get better with each and every wash.
Choosing the right bed linen for you can be a daunting prospect. Not everyone desires cotton for their bedding, many exotic natural fibres such as silk, linen or flax offer superior levels of comfort and quality. As a general rule of thumb many manufacturers use a high degree of craftsmanship when producing luxury bed linen, so they can prove the cost of the final product. There is no point using a high-grade of cotton to make your sheets, then to only stitch them using poor and cheap labour, as the appearance will not be as good and we all buy with our eyes. For the best quality bed linen stay away from polyester or nylon as they are normally used in the manufacturing of cheaper linen, normally used in duvet sets and kids bedding as they are extremely hard-wearing and will last a long time but they are not as soft and comfortable as a natural fibre like silk or cotton. Egyptian cotton bed linen is the best you can buy, you can always depend on the quality of the products that are produced and they are woven to extremely high thread counts such as 1000 and now even 1200 threads per square inch. The extra long staple yarns are extremely resilient and will last well over 10 years if cared for properly.
Silk sheets don't have a thread count as such to indicate the quality of softness of the bed linen, the natural properties of silk are well documented, look out for habotai silk and a nomme rating of over 19, these are two good indicators of quality. Branded sheets from companies like Sheridan, Peter Reed and Belledorm will make sure that the right amount of quality and craftsmanship have been applied to their bedding products. Most brands have been in business for over 25 years and their commitment to customer satisfaction is the reason they are still in business. This is good way to make sure you are spending your hard-earned money in the right direction and will receive a quality product every time. With the recent recession, many high street and internet retailers are offering very good discounts all year-round to entice their loyal customers to stay with them,so have a good look around and you are sure to find a good bargain. Don't just wait for the annual January sales when they just put out the rubbish that they cannot sell any other time of the year, pick up the telephone and ask for a deal, most retailers will offer you a discount to not lose a sale. If you think you are being cheeky ask for a discount if you bulk buy or just more than one item, you will be surprised as you will generally get 10% or more off the recommended retail prices.
Just to recap, luxury bed linen is not just for those that can afford it. We all deserve a little bit of luxury now and then but when you spend this much time doing one particular thing you can see why it is essential to invest in your sleep more than any other part of our lives. You will be hard pressed to find any other activity we spend this much time doing. Well there is work, but who wants to spend more time and effort there?
