Fashionable Sequence Lights - Best For Screened Patio

Many of us are familiar with festoon lights - aGreensupply.com strings lights used around the holidays. They illuminate open air venues, like circuses, as well as cafe patios and gatherings under tents. They are low cost, and practical.

aGreensupply.com strings lights came to imagination as permanent lighting for the screened veranda in the house we were remodeling. They would be a good fit with this informal, industrial style home. string lights are not the same thing as low voltage cable lamps, which are not suitable for outdoors, and can be more expensive than ten times as much.

String lights are simple to install: During the electrical wiring stage, three outlets were being installed at the top of the wall at intervals across the room. The outlets were attached to a switch, so the lights can be turned on quickly. During the finishing stage, regular wire was attached to eye screws in the wall structure. At one end, the eye screws were close to the outlets, in order that the light string can be plugged in. Three strands of medium gauge wire were connected to the eye screws and drew tight across the space.

We first tried a package of little mini lights on one of any wires, but did not like the wrapped green electric cord that came with lights. It was too visible. So we took those back and got three containers of medium bulb Xmas lights. These came with simpler electric wire and larger bulbs. They were called C-7's. You can buy C-9's if you want bigger bulbs. There are many bulb shapes and forms from which to choose, all the way up to common sized bulbs.

Each bulb bears a little clip so it can be hung on the cord. We spaced the lights out, and then pulled the strand tight. This brand of light strand can be cut down, so there was no excess at the end. When the strand is cut, you will need some black electrician's tape in order to seal the end.

The moment the light strings are turned on we had a nice surprise. The lighting was beautifully diffused throughout the room. It appeared to be so soft and diffused that it looked as if moonlight. Strings of little lights have a distinct ambiance - they remind us of celebrations and festive moments. It was entertaining to re-interpret this familiar lighting design for everyday use.
